4 THINGS WE MUST DO UNTO THE LORD IN ORDER TO HAVE VICTORY IN OUR LIVES

There are 4 things we must do unto the Lord in order for us to be victorious in all areas of our lives.  We must trust, delight, commit, and rest.  We will look at each one of these in Psalms 37:3-5, 7.

1. Trust

Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

Trusting in the Lord is the most important thing that we in the Body of Christ can do.  Throughout the scriptures, the Lord is telling us to trust Him.  There are approximately 33 scriptures that tell us either to trust in the Lord or to put our trust in Him.  Now that is something to think about.  The Hebrew word for “trust” is batach (pronounced ba-tak).  That word means: to have confidence in.

The Amplified Bible reads Psalm 37:3 this way:

Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed. (Emphasis added.)

The phrase “Trust in the Lord” has the same connotation as the word “faith” in the New Testament.  If you can’t trust in the Lord (have faith), then there is really nothing God can do for you because without it (faith), it is impossible to please Him as it says in Hebrews 11:6.

Is there anything else we need to say here on it?  We are to have total confidence in the Lord.

So trusting in the Lord, or having faith, is crucial if we are to have victory in our lives.

2. Delight

Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4) (NKJV™)

We must make be totally satisfied and pleased with everything there is about the Lord. From who He is to what He has done and for what He promises.  We also are to take total comfort in Him.  If we do these things, no outside influences can get to us.  Life’s problems tend to disappear when we take pleasure in totally focusing on God and His Word.

3. Commit

Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
(Psalm 37:5) (NKJV™)

God made us to be free-will beings, but that doesn’t mean that we can do any old thing anyway we want to. We must continually ask God for directions in everything that we do.

In 1 Samuel 30, we see a good example of that in how David handled a situation he and his men came upon in the city of Ziklag.

David and his men returned to the city of Ziklag and found it burned by his enemies.  In addition, the enemy took everyone in that city captive. Now after much crying and under the threat of being stoned by his own men, David asked God if he should pursue the enemy and if he will overtake them. (I am sure that the first reaction of David and his men was to just immediately go after the enemy. Just like a posse would do.)

God’s answered yes to David’s question. David not only pursued but also overtook his enemy.   In addition, David recovered what they took from him PLUS what belonged to them!

If we don’t ask God for directions in everything we do, we will face disastrous consequences.  We see that in Proverbs 14:12, which says:

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. (Emphasis added)

The word “death” here not only means physical death, but also death to whatever we are trying to accomplish.  Another word for that would be “ruin”.

If we don’t continually ask God for directions we will wind up ruining our situation.

So, committing our way, or asking God for direction, is another thing we must do in order to be victorious in our lives.

4. Rest

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. (Psalm 37:7) (NKJV™)

The Hebrew word for “rest” in this scripture isdamam(pronounced dä·man').  That word means to be still.  We are to be still and let God work things out on our behalf.  I love the way God does things because He backs that up with Psalm 46:10, which says:

Be still, and know that I am God

Too many times, we see a lot of people “sweat the small stuff” and worry over things in particular that they cannot control. And as a result, they rush to take matters into their own hands and mess things up.

So all we need to do is to be still and let God wok things out.  In the end He will work it out to His glory and our good.

God has so many ways for us to experience the abundant life.  These four are just a few of them.

What are some things that you feel that we must do unto the Lord in order to have victory in our lives?
