HOW TO DESTROY THE 4 BARRIERS TO READING THE BIBLE

This is a guest post by Marilyn Greenwalt of  How To Hear From God.  Please share your thoughts.

The Bible, the word of God is our instruction manual. It is a concrete way that God talks to us. It is difficult to explain, but the Bible is the living word of God. All that means is that it was written thousands of years ago but can be the answer to what you are going through today. Somehow, God’s word can be relevant to me in the middle of my divorce and at the same time be relevant to you in the middle of getting a promotion at work.

4 THINGS WE MUST DO UNTO THE LORD IN ORDER TO HAVE VICTORY IN OUR LIVES

There are 4 things we must do unto the Lord in order for us to be victorious in all areas of our lives.  We must trust, delight, commit, and rest.  We will look at each one of these in Psalms 37:3-5, 7.

Bible Verses To Help Us With Our New Year's Resolution

Happy New Year!

A brand New Year is upon us and, as usual, it’s time for us to make those annual resolutions, promises and commitments only to see them go by the wayside by March!

Why not try something different and change what we say about the things we want for ourselves this year?

WARNING: TRY NOT TO TALK TOO MUCH

I was leading a prayer with my fellow ushers right before service and one of the things I asked the Lord was to tell us when to speak and when to keep quiet.

That kind of bothered me throughout the day. So I finally asked the Lord why that would come out of my mouth and He said to me:  “I know you love Me, but you talk too much.”  That cut me deep!  I love to share with others what God has done for me and my family.  However, God pointed me to a scripture that helped me to understand what He was getting at.

A SURE-FIRE WAY TO GET YOUR PRAYERS ANSWERED

I bought a concordance over 15 years ago because I wanted to further my study of the Bible.  Fifteen years later I still did not know how to use it.  The concordance basically became a doorstop.

I looked at the concordance one day last year and I asked our Heavenly Father to show me how to use it because He told me in His word whatever I asked in Jesus name, He will do it for me so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (John 14:13)

One day after church, the Lord told me to go up to my pastor and ask him to show me how to use the concordance I had.  The pastor told me to bring it to church the following Sunday and he would show me.  On my home from church that very same hour, the Lord told me exactly how to use my concordance and I have not looked back since.   I did not have to bring it to my pastor to show me now since I was able to use it.

God taught me a valuable lesson.  The lesson was that every promise of God has a premise.  In order for God to move in our lives, He requires us to make the first move in faith by obeying what he tells us to do.

I believe God was testing me to see if I would obey Him in asking my pastor.  Since I did, God Himself answered my prayer and taught me how to use my concordance.

So when we ask God to do something for us, follow what He says no matter what. The answer to our prayers will always come through obedience.

WHY THE GIFT OF RECEIVING IS CRUCIAL FOR THE BELIEVER

Let me start right off by saying this statement:

WE ALL NEED TO LEARN HOW TO BE QUALIFIED RECEIVERS

Now, with that said, I am going on to my point.

WHY SOME OF US CHRISTIANS ARE ALMOST ALWAYS RETURNING BACK TO EGYPT

We all know how God, through  Moses, led the children of Israel out of Egypt.  We also know that they were in the wilderness for approximately 40 years because they did not believe what God had said with regards to them going into the promise land.  But why did they not believe?  They did not believe because even though they were led out of Egypt, they really never left it behind. Let’s take a look at that.

WARNING.....DON’T GET TONGUE-TIED

There are many gifts of the Spirit.  However, one gift that I feel causes the most debate in the Body of Christ is the gift of speaking in tongues.   Why? Because the enemy does not want us to take advantage of that gift.

Paul provides good discussion about speaking in tongues in 1 Corinthians 14.  While that piece of scripture compares and contrasts speaking in tongues with prophesying, the practical lesson in it is that we speak more effectively to God when we speak in tongues.

WHY IT IS CRITICAL TO CHECK THINGS OUT

I normally don’t rant and rave too much about anything.  However, I came across an article regarding health and the Gospel that just ticked me off.  You can read it for yourselves at:  www.icr.org/article/gospel-health.

Anyhow, the article talks about Jesus and the people He healed.  The article goes on to indicate that Jesus’ healing was an “initial ministry” and that it was a sign of things to come. Furthermore, the article seems to indicate that Jesus and the apostles could not heal anyone after a certain point.  The scriptures that the article uses to backup its claim are:  Mark 6:5; Matthew 17: 14-16, and 2 Timothy 4:20.  I want to take a look at these!
